I’ve been inspired to expand another class topic in my Synergis Advanced Revit classes to include the Lighting Analysis for Revit plugin as well as the Illuminance renderings we currently have been offering in my classes. The second cloud application that David explored with us was rendering in Autodesk 360 using an output type of “Illuminance”. This gives us a better sense for the validity of the Lighting Analysis for Revit plugin results. And I appreciated the studies that David shared with us comparing the LAR results side-by-side with Radiance results.

Many of us have come to trust the analysis results from Radiance that closely match the as-built results you’ll achieve with your building. We not only learned how to run a lighting analysis to get a results summary to show us if we passed LEED criteria of at least 75% for our building, but since this is a cloud-based analysis, we were given helpful tips on how to minimize our cloud credit usage – to make our cloud credits stretch farther. And this is coupled with easy to use and understandable interfaces, that do away with tedious and highly technical modeling setup requirements. The advances to Revit capabilities made in recent releases of Revit now allow designers to work “in-canvas” instead of outside of the Revit program to get these daylighting performance results. The session took a deep dive into the Lighting Analysis for Revit plugin (LAR) and then gave us an introduction to Rendering Illuminance output with Revit. One of the classes I particularly benefited from was session AB6553, presented by David Scheer, aimed at Architects, Electrical Engineers, and Lighting Designers. It was easy to find many class choices I’d like to attend but hard to decide which class NOT to go to. I was amazed at the HUGE list of class choices for every time slot of every day.
